L-Glutamine picks up ammonia in the central nervous system and delivers it to the kidneys for deamination. L-Glutamine can readily pass the blood brain barrier, sustains mental activity, reduces an individuals desire to consume alcohol and sugar; it's used to protect against the poisonous effects of alcohol, and has been used in treatment of Schizophrenia and senility. It is also used to treat ulcers and petit mal epilepsy.
