Ultima Replenisher is a re-hydration sports drink which contains no sugars, artificial sweeteners or other artificial ingredients and contains only 35 to 40 calories per 20 ounce serving. Maltodextrin Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate that digests uniformly to supply energy consistently to the body over time without creating a “yo-yo” effect common with the digestion of simple sugars. Lo Han Guo Lo Han Guo contains a natural sweetening agent called Mogroside, which is derived from the Lo Han Guo fruit and processed into a fine powder. This extract is easily soluble in water without any sediment. It is a stable, non-fermentable extract which is ideal for diabetics. Stevia Stevia is a natural plant extract considered to have a beneficial effect in controlling blood sugar levels. Sugar MattersNot only is the inclusion of certain ingredients important to the formula's success but the exclusion of sugar, abundant in competitive formulas, is just as important. The consumption of large amounts of simple sugar actually diminishes athletic performance. Sugar can cause what physiologists call the "yo-yo effect." This refers to the dramatic rise in blood sugar levels shortly after sugar consumption, followed by a steep decline in blood sugar to a level below where it was before consumption occurred. Ultima Replenisher is rapidly digested and passes quickly to the small intestine for absorption, typically in less than 20 minutes. The digestion of sugar (along with thickeners, and other no essential ingredients) can take up to 45 minutes. When simple sugar is consumed, the pancreas produces insulin to digest it. When the insulin is introduced, the liver becomes occupied breaking down the insulin and therefore is not available to convert fat to glycogen for the muscles to burn, a function essential to performance during training or competition. This is why the consumption of simple sugar before or during training or competition can prove detrimental to athletic performance.
